Ugh, the "Gays against groomers" one is particularly egregious to me… I think it's because I work as an advocate for the prevention of sexual and domestic abuse, and it pisses me off to see people attempt to co-opt an incredibly important movement to do the exact opposite of keeping kids safe. Their rhetoric is so dangerous, and it's not like I see any of these "think of the children" folks on the front lines of actual evidence-based prevention efforts. I could (and did) write thousands of words about how their efforts are based in long-debunked myths about sexual violence and abuse. It's insidious, and even though I think many reasonable people can tell these particular people are nothing but bigots, I still see less obvious forms of the same rhetoric everywhere, stated in ways that even typically reasonable people have difficulty identifying. It's why I write about it so often.
